The Metamorphosis of Bethnal Green

Blog London Lifestyle
15.11.12

Over the last 10 years, Bethnal Green has undergone a dramatic metamorphosis. Once best known as Beffnal Green, the ‘gentleman’s sports club’ kind of area, time and the Olympic Games has transformed it into a buzzing urban hub that borders some of the trendiest East London haunts.

The hipster bug has spread from Shoreditch to Brick Lane to Bethnal Green and as a new desirable enclave for young professionals, the area’s reacted to the demand sprouting modern apartment blocks, boutique cafes and organic eateries that line the streets alongside traditional East End pubs.

We’ve obviously caught the bug too by opting to build one of our developments, Farrier House, in this diverse corner of the city. Transport links are second to none – London’s Liverpool Street is close by, as is Bethnal Green Underground Station that’s served by the Central Line. If location is the key concern for you, then Farrier House will be the perfect rental solution for you.

For those of you who are new to the area or are just interested in finding out a bit more about it, why not have a go at discovering Bethnal Green by checking off our list of top 3 things to do there!

  • Spitalfields City Farm: A short stroll from the hustle and bustle of Brick Lane is this urban oasis. Built in a former railway goods depot, it’s home to both familiar and rare breeds of animals and fresh veg you can pick yourself! The farm offers free cookery classes and kids’ activity classes as well as hosting many events during the year. But the obvious highlight is the Oxford v. Cambridge Goat Race…
  • Secret Cinema: In Bethnal Green and various other East London locations is the elusive Secret Cinema. We can’t say much though because (as the name conveniently suggests) we don’t know much! You’ll be watching a film. Somewhere. The ‘what’ and ‘where’ will only be revealed at the very last moment. But if you stick to these parts, you’ll be sure to make it before the curtain rises.
  • Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club: A staple of the former Bethnal Green, the Working Men’s Club has be mercilessly dragged into the modern day ensuring it’s suitable for Hispters of all ages. If you’re looking for a wacky, eccentric night out that will be your topic of conversation over Sunday brunch, then go no further.
