Essential Living Tackle Tough Mudder

Saturday 24th September saw Essential Living tackle Tough Mudder in support of local homelessness charity, The Passage.

The course was a grueling 10 miles of challenging obstacles, including tall walls, monkey bars, ice baths, electricity and – of course – tonnes of mud!

The event was in support of The Passage, London’s largest voluntary sector resource centre for homeless and vulnerable people. Every day their team of 8 help up to 200 men and women sleeping rough in Westminster.

Thanks to donations from friends, family and suppliers, we managed to raise over £4,000! Congratulations to all of our team for taking part, and a huge thanks to everyone who donated.

“I thinking looking at the pictures the word “challenge” is really appropriate. I had the pleasure of joining the team in the first round of fundraising at their pub quiz. That was great fun and raised a lot of money.

“The Passage works with people who are homeless on the street in Westminster. We aim to support each homeless person on the journey away from homelessness. In the first nine months of 2016 we helped 100 individuals end their homelessness by returning them to full-time employment.

“This can be more difficult than you would think. If we support someone in finding a job then they won’t hold that job down whilst still living on the streets. We provide the funds for basic bed and breakfast in a backpacker hostel if someone is still on the street when they return to work. We may need to fund this for a month until they get paid. There are travel to work costs and appropriate work clothing to consider too. We could not cover these costs without fundraising and Essential Living have given a hand up to some of those who will move off the street and back to work.”
